$2.7 Million Patek Philippe Watch
White gold Patek Philippe single-button chronograph from 1928, undoubtedly the only one of its kind, is expected to fetch up to $2.7 million at Christie’s Important Watches sale in Geneva.
Created in 1928 on the eve of the stock market crash, the unique and complicated 1928 chronograph was a bespoke commission from one of Patek Philippe’s most important patrons, though his exact identity is unknown.
The cushion-shaped wristwatch, with vertically positioned registers and Breguet numerals, is the only known example extant of a single-button chronograph by Patek Philippe made in white gold.
As such, it’s perfectly possible that it could end up selling for more than $2.7 million.
Arceau Pocket Promenade de Longchamp Watch
Herm¨s, the renowned French luxury house has always believed in reviving age-old fashion. The announcement by Herm¨s that the Grand Arceau Moon Phase watch would hit the shelves of the retailers later this year was very well received by the watch enthusiasts. As a follow up to that announcement Herm¨s has now come up with the Arceau Pocket Promenade de Longchamp watch.
The Arceau wristwatch was originally visualized by Henri d’Origny in 1978. The new pocket watch, whether you carry it inside a jacket or your trouser pocket lends a certain class to the wearer. The Herm¨s pocket watch for 2011 comes with a new dial made from a block of natural mother-of-pearl. A relief modeling technique has been used to highlight an equestrian scene on the Arceau Pocket Promenade de Longchamp.
The images of carriage, horses and protagonists have been engraved on two superimposed gold plates. The three dimensional effect gives life to the scene. The central square Promenade de Longchamp, designed by Philippe Ledoux in 1965 seems to be the inspiration behind this new creation. The case of the watch is made in white gold.
