The Sultan of Brunei spends 15000 pounds for a freaking trim

That is the sum the Sultan of Brunei spent to have his hair trimmed earlier this month when he flew out his favourite barber, Ken Modestou, from London. Modestou, who runs a barber’s at the Dorchester hotel in Mayfair, central London, was given a self-contained suite on a Singapore Airlines flight for the 7,000-mile trip to the sultanate.
The cabin, which costs just less than 11,000 pounds, was deemed necessary because the 63-year-old sultan wanted to ensure his barber was isolated from possible swine flu among other passengers. While Modestou’s clients at the Dorchester pay 30 pounds for a haircut, the sultan, whose fortune is estimated at 12 billion pounds, gives him several thousand dollars in cash each time, in addition to the flight and hotel accommodation for three to four nights.

Pierre Corthay

Made-to-measure shoes are like works of art: they’re personal, unique and absolutely beautiful. It is especially apt in the case of Pierre Corthay, whose bespoke shoes provide the inspiration for what has become one of the world’s premier lines of luxury men’s accessories, attracting customers as eminent as the Sultan of Brunei. The Parisian atelier has also drawn collaborations with major French fashion houses such as Christian Dior and Lanvin.
No novice in the world of craft or luxury, the young Pierre Corthay made his debut as an apprentice with the Tour de France des Compagnons du Devoir. He joined John Lobb in 1984, and left two years later to take over the reins as the Chef d’ Atelier at Berluti. Here he mastered the subtleties of satisfying an extremely demanding and knowledgeable clientele before moving on to launch his own atelier in 1990.

Just recently, the Sultan of Brunei decided to get a new haircut. Now don’t be surprised when I tell you that he flew down his favorite barber, Ken Modestu from London to Brunei.
