Soccer Faberge Eggs Up for Auction

Soccer Faberge Eggs

American football players get jeweled rings and shiny trophies but European football players get Faberge eggs. Or at least some of them do. Two Faberge eggs created to honor two soccer players, Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone and Manchester United’s George Best are being auctioned off by McTears’ Auctioneers in Glasgow, Scotland. The enameled eggs are decorated with silver and gold and open to reveal a small silver and gold figure of each of the players inside.

The eggs were created by Sarah Faberge, the great grandaughter of Russian Imperial Jeweler Carl Faberge and go up for sale on March 1. The egg shown at right is Best’s egg which shows the European Cup medal and the football League Champion’s badge. The sides of the Egg are decorated with the official crest used by Manchester United in 1968 and, from the same year, the Northern Ireland official crest.

The Dalmore Rivers Collection

The Dalmore Rivers Collection

Scotland is known for its world-renowned single malts, but among fishing enthusiasts, the country is known just as well for its excellent finish rivers, where the Atlantic salmon swim free and the scenery is positively breathtaking. It’s not every day that these two aspects of Scotland’s lore are brought together, but that day has come in the form of the Dalmore Rivers Collection.

Composed of four specially-crafted single malts selected by master distiller Richard Paterson, the Rivers Collection seeks to promote and protect Scotland’s greatest fishing rivers. Each is named after and dedicated to a specific river: the Dee, the Tay, the Tweed and the Spey.

Part of the proceeds from the sale of each of these special single malts goes towards foundations dedicated to preserving these rivers, which are working together in a joint fundraising effort for the first time in history. When the first of these, called the Dee Dram, went on sale last year, it sold out in a matter of nine short weeks.

Glenlivet launched with its Sight on the top Spot

Glenlivet

Glenlivet, the first licensed distillery in Scotland has set its sight on the top spot and is pulling out all stops to become the global number one single malt whisky in the world. Glenlivet is currently the number two behind Glenfiddich, which is currently, number one. The distillery has an elaborate plan in place backed by a $15 million budget.

Six new copper pot stills are being installed that will replicate the existing seven long-necked stills. This is a big move for the distillery and to celebrate the event, Glenlivet has issued a special limited-edition Founder’s Reserve single malt scotch. 1,824 individually numbered bottles have been produced. The number was determined as a tribute to George Smith’s 1824 founding of Glenlivet.

Alan Winchester, the newly appointed master distiller at Glenlivet has sourced some of the most flavorful casks in the distillery’s celebrated cellars. The 21-year-old, non-chill-filtered Founder’s Reserve is brimming with orange marmalade, dried fruits, and sweet toffee along with Glenlivet’s signature floral notes. Cheers, to Glenlivets shot at the top spot in the world of single malts.
