Bavaria Yachts USA to Open Three U.S. Factory-Direct Locations in 2012

Bavaria Yachts USA to Open Three U.S. Factory-Direct Locations in 2012

Earlier this week, Bavaria Yachts USA announced the launch of three new factory-direct locations by the end of this year. The new sites in Newport, Rhode Island, Chicago, Illinois, and the Bay Area in Northern California will adhere to the business model of the firm’s flagship location in Annapolis, Maryland. The success of its Cruiser launch at the 2011 U.S. Boat Show in Annapolis, Maryland, and its increasing popularity in North America, has led to the expansion of Bavaria Yachts USA. The luxury shipbuilder’s mission is expanding its current sales, service, and yacht chartering to directly serve the Northeast, the Great Lakes, and the Northern California markets.

All the newly unveiled will have a dedicated Horizon Yacht Charters base just like the one the two firms opened at the Annapolis office in spring 2011. Bavaria Yachts’ new “factory-direct” business model offers factory-direct pricing, boats built to personalized specifications, and purchase-to-delivery lead times of around three months.

Bavaria Yachts USA is now taking orders throughout the U.S. The company is offering the reimbursement of travel expenses to clients interested in the yacht-chartering program at its Annapolis office.   In conjunction with the opening of the three new locations in 2012, the company will be exhibitors at the Newport Boat Show (Sept. 2012), the U.S. Boat Show in Annapolis (Oct. 2012), the Strictly Sail Chicago Show (Jan. 2013), and the Strictly Sail Pacific Show (April 2013).The Cruiser and the Vision lines will be featured at the shows.

Nicholas Cage’s Rhode Island Home Sold At Big Losses

Nicholas Cage's Rhode Island Home

Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage has been having some rotten luck with his real estate investments. He’s lost several of his homes to the banks or sold them at huge losses. Most recently, it was Cage’s Gray Craig mansion in Middleton, Rhode Island. The luxury property had been put up on sale as early as in 2008 at the starting price of $15.9 million. It took over two years to sell, that too, at a measly $6.2 million. Cage paid double that when purchasing the property in 2007.

The global economic crisis sent real estate prices spiraling downwards. But for celebrity homes to run into the kind of losses that Cage’s properties have is surprising. Cage purchased the Gray Craig mansion in 2007 for $15.7 million. By the time the luxury property was finally sold, the actor had run up $128,000 in unpaid taxes.

Although it was initially placed on the market at the price of $15.9 million, the price of the Gray Craig mansion fell to $9.5 million. It was eventually purchased by Boston couple Pamela and Andrew Constantine. The couple will conserve and preserve the oceanfront property and rent it out from time to time. Real estate agent Melanie Delman confirmed as much, but refused to spill any info about either the buyers or the selling price.

Cage’s former estate is a brick-and-stone country manor that is spread over 24,000 square feet and houses 12 bedrooms and 10 baths. This is also not the first home that Cage has lost. As of now, Cage’s Las Vegas and Bel-Air homes are up for sale at $7.9 million and $35 million respectively.

John Kerry gets bad publicity

John Kerry

John Kerry, the Massachusetts senator has recently bought a $7 million yacht. He has docked this luxury yacht in Rhode Island and not his own state of Massachusetts.

Rhode Island has abolished a tax on the purchase and use of yachts, whereas in his home state he would have had to pay no less than $50,000. So people are accusing him of doing this in order to save that tax money. But Kerry and his spokesperson have clarified that the boat was bought in Rhode Island and so it only makes sense that the boat be docked over there. The boat was designed by and purchased from a company in Rhode Island, and it’s based in Newport at the Newport Shipyard for long-term maintenance.

But it seems that the boat was sighted in Nantucket over the Fourth of July holidays. So according to the law that states that, “if a boat owner berths the vessel in Massachusetts waters within six months of purchasing the boat, there’s a “presumption of use,’ and the owner must fork over the 6.25% sales tax to the commonwealth.
