The Oscar for ‘Citizen Kane’

The Oscar for 'Citizen Kane'

If you would have heard a while before that the Oscar statues are up for sale, you wouldn’t have believed it. It is the same thing when it comes to the Academy Award being fixed; it just means that some winners just give it up as keepsakes. This time around the Oscar statuette that Orson Welles bagged for the original screenplay of “Citizen Kane” went under the hammer. The shimmering statue fetched over $861,000 in an auction conducted by Nate D. Sanders Auctions at Los Angeles.

According to the Spokesman Sam Heller, the auction attracted bids from all over the world including bids from David Copperfield. The statue that was handed in 1942 was said to be lost and resurfaced in 1994 when cinematographer Gary Graver tried to sell it, only to be stopped by Beatrice Welles, who is Orson’s youngest daughter and sole heir. This is not the first statue to be sold under the hammer. In 1999, Michael Jackson forked out $1.54 million for David O. Selznick for “Gone With The Wind” best picture Oscar.

The Only Portrait MJ Posed For To Go Under The Hammer

Portrait of Michael Jackson The Only Portrait MJ Posed For To Go Under The Hammer

And the legend of Michael Jackson continues to live on. There were the crystal gloves, outlandish clothes, furniture and an Andy Warhol painting of the star in some rather unique shades. But now what we have got our eyes on is nothing but the only portrait that the mega popstar ever posed for. Created by Australian artist Brett Livingstone Strong, the beautiful masterpiece measures 50 by 40 inch.

MJ’s death was a huge setback for all his fans across the world. Many became loyals again after the phase of doubting and later disliking the singer due to allegations of his beinf a pedophile. The doctor who administered the drugs to a sick MJ which caused his death is facing trial for medical misconduct. But despite all these, the fans have fond ways to honor the memory of the popstar that loved so much.

Titled “The Book”, this portrait has Jackson dressed in a Renaissance style red velvet jacket and seated on sweeping checkerboard floor below a magically translucent curtain at the star’s Neverland ranch. The painting was purchased by a Japanese businessman Hiromichi Saeki for $2.1 million in 1990 but went on to Marty Abrams and John Gentilly as payment of debt owed to them by Saeki.

Thriller Faithful Glove Clutch: A Tribute to Alexander McQueen and Michael Jackson

Thriller Faithful Glove Clutch

2009 and early 2010 have seen a number of celebrity deaths that it almost became unbearable to listen to more of people’s death. First we got to hear about Michael Jackson’s death and then Brittany Murphy’s. Later, the fashion community was aghast to learn that Alexander McQueen passed away in the most tragic of circumstances.

With that in mind, here is a handbag that pays tribute to both Alexander McQueen and Michael Jackson. McQueen’s Thriller Faithful Glove Clutch looks almost like a Hollywood diva’s must-have, and has been created out of white Swarovski crystals. You could also find two angled zipper pockets and a white fingerless glove which look very refined. The interior has a great purple/plum lining which makes the bag look really luxurious.

Michael Jackson’s art collection is currently at an LA Airport hangar

The day when the legendary Michael Jackson has dies was a very sad day for all his fans and for people all over the world. Their idol has died and it will probably never be someone like him. That was also the day when some people were thinking of a way to get their hand of his private art collection. This was estimated to around $900 million which is very impressive, considering that he didn’t own rare paintings or other items, but only what he did himself.

Owned by his art mentor Brett-Livingstone Strong together with the Jackson estate, this collection can be seen at a Santa Monica Airport hangar which also doubled as his studio at times. Among the items he kept there, there’s a giant bronze sculpture of Michael Jackson, many wax pencil sketches made by MJ on a variety of themes like chairs, gates, keys and the number 7. There are also a lot of self-portraits and pictures of George Washington and Paul McCartney. In the collection are also included the wax pencils, paper, a white-feathered quilt and the white glove that Michael Jackson used when creating his art.
