Skyline Residence by Belzberg Architects

skyline 2.jpg

Belzberg Architects is a group of young designers guided by the experiences and curiosity of Hagy Belzberg. They designed the Skyline Residence which is located atop a ridgeline in the Hollywood Hills of Los Angeles, California.

The project consists of a main house and a guest house. Both buildings are enclosed by a single folded surface with infill glazing and screened walls. Each room has at least one fully glazed wall. The fold itself represents the only solid exterior surfaces defining the form of the building. The guest house is separate from the main house. The environmental friendly sensitive Skyline Residence in the Hollywood Hills under a limited budget with the use of local manufactured materials and sustainable techniques gives a fresh look to luxury homes.

Montalban House for sale

montalban 1.jpg

The Montalban House located in the Los Angeles Bird Streets area is now for sale. The house belonging to the late American film actor, Ricardo Montalban was designed by architect Ricardio Legorreta and sits high up in the hills.

The angular home is a series of cubes arranged for maximum view potential. A thin swimming pool runs along the side of the house next to a terrace and reaches its end in a blue-tiled square. Certainly there are dated elements of the house such as the mirrored wall in the dining room. The house reflects a spirited interplay of space, color, and light typical of Legorreta’s work. It is listed at US$ 20 million. Some of the Real Estalker’s commenters feel that the price of this 6 bedroom luxury home is a bit too high.

Royal Bank Of Scotland cancels order of private jet

falcon7x-468x351.jpg

Royal Bank of Scotland has cancelled its order of a US $45 million luxury private jet. It was to be used by its ousted chief executive and other executives. The company would have enjoyed if the bank had not needed a taxpayer bailout.

The bank was among a list of companies that cancelled orders for Dassault Aviation’s state-of-the-art Falcon 7X business jet and rival models in the wake of the financial crash and fury over boardroom perks, the French manufacturer said on Thursday. R.B.S. placed the order for the ultra-modern long-range Falcon 7X worth $40 million to $45 million about five years ago, and the plane was due to be delivered this year. Deposits of 10 percent before delivery are most times kept on cancelled orders, but R.B.S. said it had not lost its deposit or any money on the deal and had sold on the order for the jet. The list of Dassault’s cancelled orders also includes Citigroup which has also been battered by heavy losses. This just reminds me of the NY times corporate jet which is also on sale as reported by us earlier.

Harry Winston launches Opus 9 watches

Opus 9.jpg

The Harry Winston Opus Series, initially introduced in 2001 and based on the brand’s successful collaboration with most gifted independent watchmakers, has been joined by a new innovative masterpiece “” Opus 9. The linear driven watch tracks the time in a unique movement with diamonds, not merely added to accentuate the luxury design, but as the functional element of time-telling.

Two parallel diamond chains keep track of the minute and seconds using a vivid mandarin garnet indicating the hours on the left side of the dial and the minutes on the right side. Each chain sparkles with 33 baguette-cut diamonds. Each diamond is meticulously calibrated and set into the links, to guarantee the proper movement. The chains are crafted in brass to maximize mobility and minimize friction. A special rack and pinion mechanism creates the lateral drive required for propelling the continuous gliding movement. The extraordinary timepiece features an automatic self-winding movement, a 72-hour power-reserve and is 30-meter water-resistant. This rare horological creation is a joint work of Harry Winston and Jean Marc Wiederrecht, who was awarded with the grand prix 2007 Best Watchmaker Designer title.
