Jaeger-LeCoultre pays tribute to Charlie Chaplin

Jaeger-LeCoultre pays tribute to Charlie Chaplin

JAEGER-LeCOULTRE watches paid homage to the legendary actor, writer, director, composer, the late Sir Charles Chaplin at a very special event held in the honor of his Honorary Award he received 40 years ago, at the 44th Academy Awards held in 1972, which he received ‘for the enduring effect he had in making motion pictures the art form of this century’. The manufacturers of high-end timepieces partnered with Carmen and Dolores Chaplin, the granddaughters of Sir Chaplin for this occasion.

The Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, California, the home of Hollywood, the event was hosted by Carmen and Dolores Chaplin. Those in attendance were several Hollywood personalities, including Academy Award nominee and The Help actress Jessica Chastain, Quantum of Solace actress Olga Kurylenko, Before Sunrise and Before Sunset actress Julie Delpy, Superman Returns actress Kate Bosworth, among several others.

What turned out to be an exemplary celebration of the contribution to cinema made by Sir Chaplin and the legacy he left behind was in-sync with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s commitment to film. Among the brands other ongoing initiatives to support the art of film are their association with the film festivals in Shanghai, Abu Dhabi and Venice, and their annual Glory to the Filmmaker award.

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX5 World Chronograph LMP1

Jaeger-LeCoultre AMVOX5 World Chronograph LMP1

The collaboration between Jaeger-LeCoultre and Aston Martin Racing turns seven and to celebrate the big occasion, they are out with the AMVOX5 World Chronograph LMP1. Furthering the Racing line the watch is said to amaze motor sports enthusiasts. Borrowing from racing cars, signature features can be spotted on the case and the dial of the AMVOX5 World Chronograph LMP1.

Reminding you that it is a racing car watch, akin to the cockpit of the LMP1 cars, the dial of the AMVOX5 World Chronograph sports two counters positioned at 3 and 9 o’clock record the hours and minutes respectively to since the start of the race. At the 6 o’clock position you can see the date counter.

Limited to 250 pieces only, the 44mm x 15mm watch sports an AR-coated sapphire crystal dome and 50 meters of water resistance. Gevril 1200 Times Square Limited Edition Watch

Gevril 1200 Times Square Limited Edition Watch

2011 is the Time Square collection starting with this 1200 Times Square men’s model in 18k rose gold. The style is interesting and high-end looking, but seems to borrow a lot from some other popular watches. Most notably you’ll see a lot of Girard-Perregaux and Jaeger-LeCoultre in the design.

I am happy about the large size for the case, as it will be 42mm wide. That isn’t super large for a round watch, but feels a lot bigger in a more square watch such as this. The case is curved to fit over your wrist better and I like how the sapphire crystal over the dial matches the curve. The dial is pretty nice, and feels like what would happen if you combined Cartier and Franck Muller. Inside the watch is a Swiss ETA 2896 automatic big date movement. The watch is attached to a nice looking 18k gold bracelet.
