The Jewelry of Van Cleef & Arpels will showcase more than 300 timepieces, fashion accessories, design drawings, images from the firm’s archives and, of course, an abundance of jewelry in six themes that reflect its legacy: Innovation, Transformation, Nature, Exoticism, Fashion, and Personalities.
The Innovations category highlights the brand’s Mystery Setting, a 1933 patented technique in which stones are cut to fit a metal grid so there is no visible metal setting. Among the standout Mystery Setting pieces is a ruby Peony brooch, circa 1937. In the Fashion theme are five minaudi¨res, including elaborate jeweled models and the brand’s first 1930s piece inspired by Florence Jay Gould, wife of the American philanthropist Frank Jay Gould. The exhibit’s Transformation portion features a 95-carat yellow diamond bird brooch, whose wings become a set of earrings. Exoticism and Nature show the recurring influence of travel and natural inspirations on classic Van Cleef & Arpels motifs like the butterfly, and Personalities will demonstrate the influence the house has had in American society through famous patrons like Elizabeth Taylor.

SW Speakers has made the unthinkable ” the Magic Flute, their first model, after years of sound engineering. With this innovation, they have given us a chance like never before to experience high quality, smooth and crystal clear resonant frequencies. A team of students pursuing their Masters degree in the Innovation Design Engineering (IDE) are planning to create a new international space hotel as part of their course which is run together by Imperial College London and the Royal College of Art.
A 12-meter-long replica of the hotel interior, along with the animated designs has been showcased of this hotel is intended to be built in space and fitted to the International Space Station.
The toilets have been designed in such a way so as to save space, counteract zero gravity and help human muscles to remove waste effectively. A shower nozzle has also been designed that can suck up the water after the washing is done so that water would not have to be left floating as globules. Natural fibers will be used to make clothes for the space tourists. These Ŕspace suites will come with small chest flaps to let the air enter inside to keep the body cool.
FYI: The Galactic Suite, the first hotel planned in space, expects to open for business in 2012.
