Toby Pomeroy uses ‘EcoGold’ and ‘EcoSilver’ for his jewelry

One intelligent man Toby Pomeroy is an exception to this rule. As a designer of fine jewelry, Pomeroy became concerned about the environmental impact of precious metals mining and decided to take proactive action. Pomeroy made arrangements with the largest supplier and refiner of precious metals in the US, Hoover and Strong, to find an alternative metal supply that he could use. The company now exclusively uses gold and silver dubbed “EcoGold” and “EcoSilver” which are acquired entirely from recycled or reclaimed metal.
The customers have begun to pay attention to such stuff and are more concerned about the environment. The consumers are increasingly opting for environmentally friendly jewelry. This fact, combined with the effect of our global economic crisis is leading to entirely new habits on the part of jewelry buyers.

While I’m personally in love with standard re-issue of the classic chunky diver revealed back in 2008, the submission for the auction however is something different.

St. Kilda Jewelry
St. Kilda Jewelry is treated as one of the most elegant and fine jewelry that would be seen around in recent times. It is also treated as a testament to the eclectic background and cultured life of proprietor Nora Kogan. It has been nurtured in a place where “the art of collecting” was both a value and a form of self-expression; Kogan’s aesthetic attitude is that of a keen-eyed world-traveler who understands the value of surprise.
All around with indie stores, charming restaurants and other eccentric staples, her Park Slope-based jewelry shop has become the central hub for one of jewelry design’s rising talents. With St. Kilda, Australia, as the creative ground and setting, Kogan grew up watching as artists, intellectuals, junkies and locals fancied the Eastern European-filled neighborhood streets with their unique endeavors and ideals.
While in Tsfat, Kogan recognized her passion for jewelry making and eventually returned to her native Australia to study goldsmithing and the technical side of the art at the Northern Melbourne Institute of Technology. After finishing her degree, she abruptly cut an apprenticeship short when the opportunity to move to New York came knocking.
Kogan’s clientele consists of Marni, Balenciaga, Givenchy and Margiela-inclined fashionistas, and she confidently designs her jewelry with such an audience in mind. That said, St. Kilda’s jewelry has a personality of its own and its goal is to outlive the trends of seasoned jewelry with one-of-a-kind statement making detail and craftsmanship.

Paris Couture: Brandishing Both Confidence and Confusion

Just a few years ago, couture was facing what many pundits called an “identity crisis’. Before that, it seemed that the entire world was predicting its imminent extinction and the ultimate demise of the expertise personified by the “petits mains’ who make couture garments so extraordinary.
But in the past couple of seasons, a new consensus has emerged. Many of those same experts and industry insiders are now facing the uncomfortable reality of having to eat their words. Couture, they decree, is not only relevant again but it also appears to be thriving thanks to the triumvirate of new markets, new clients and, some say, even a new collective vision for the industry.
The handful of major maisons still operating made-to-measure services for a separate couture collection have tightened the reins on pure fantasy and settled instead for a more rational interpretation of luxury “” though certainly not without the requisite extravagance. “ Many industry insiders are now having to eat their words. Couture is not only relevant again but it also appears to be thriving. ”

Armani Prive, Chanel, Bouchra Jarrar
The fall/winter 2011-12 season that concluded on Thursday was a case in point. Hence, the romantic opulence that enveloped the shows of Givenchy, Valentino and Elie Saab and the savage beauty which framed collections by Jean Paul Gaultier, Giambattista Valli and Alexis Mabille. Or the discreet daywear favoured by the likes of Armani Prive, Chanel and Bouchra Jarrar.
The houses of Azzedine Ala¯a and Christian Dior sat on either end of the spectrum, representing two extremes of couture’s evolving identity. Or, as a few of the more blunt critics have suggested, they embodied the best and the worst that contemporary couture has to offer.
