Peace Hotel’s Nine Nations Suites

Peace Hotel's Nine Nations Suites

The true expressions of the world’s great nations and cultures are the Nine Nations Suites in Shanghai’s Fairmont Peace Hotel. The Nine Nations Suites, several of which were a part of the original hotel then known as The Cathay Hotel when it opened in 1929, were the creation of the founder Sir Victor Sassoon. Sassoon, a businessman from a famous banking family, was a bon vivant who lived in Shanghai and often hosted known figures such as Charlie Chaplin, Bernard Shaw, and Noel Coward, who wrote “Private Lives” while in residence. It was a heady time to live in Shanghai as the city rose to global prominence. The Cathay Hotel was considered the top luxury hotel in the city for decades.

The leading hospitality designed the new suites by the interior design firm HBA / Hirsch Bedner Associates, reflect the international nature of The Peace Hotel and the spirit of 1930s luxury travel. The French, Italian, Spanish, Japanese and German suites have been redesigned by HBA in keeping with the original concept of presenting different national and historical styles, the Chinese, Indian, English and American suites have been preserved from the original Peace Hotel.

The American suite has a vintage Hollywood glamour theme. The English Suite goes Victorian with paneled walls, brick fireplaces and molded plaster ceilings. The Chinese Suite features an Imperial dragon design on the scarlet ceiling. The design is complimented by red lacquer furniture offset by gold-colored walls.

The Italian Suite evokes modern Italian design and has a marble bath room has a deep claw-foot tub with a bath-side LCD screen and a whirlpool. The Japanese Suite has tatami mats, shoji screens and furnishings suggest traditional Japanese design motifs. The French Suite presents an Art Nouveau style with classically figured wall paper; walnut carved furniture and luxuriously designed fabrics.

The Spanish Suite features rich patterns and solid wood furniture and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub with bath-side LCD screen and a whirlpool. Hong Kong jewelers to melt their famous Golden Flush

gold toilet.jpg

Hang Fung Jewellers, where the golden loo is displayed, said that it will melt down one ton of the gold in its 24-carat lavatory if the price hits 1,000 dollars an ounce, and use the money to help expand its stores on the Chinese mainland. The company, which draws Chinese tourists by the busload to its unique Hall of Gold, promises that the one-of-a-kind attraction won’t be de-throned “” but while the toilet stays, a ton of ornaments around it will come to an end.

Chief financial officer Frank Wu said the group, which already has 160 outlets on the mainland, was looking to increase that number to 1,000 to take advantage of China’s booming economy “” and its thirst for all things gold. “GDP is growing rapidly and many people have now bought what they need, so they are shopping for luxuries,” Wu told AFP, adding that jewellery sales rose 40 percent in China last year. The toilet is part of an extravagant display that includes a golden palace and statues of Chinese goddesses, originally created to lure shoppers into the company’s showrooms. Let’s just wait and watch what happens to the gold potty.

This desert flower blooms on only one or two nights of the year in a bold extravagant display that usually goes unseen and unremarked upon. This large piece is studded with 486 VVS1 round diamonds totaling and 24 yellow sapphires set in 18kt white and yellow gold.

Aguti 20M Mahogany Motor Yacht

img02pop
The gorgeous German-built 20-metre mahogany Aguti motor yacht combines traditional wooden shipbuilding techniques with high-tech composite technology in one damned stylish package. It took around 50,000 hours of craftsmanship to mould the 40 cubic metres of mahogany, 50 cubic metres of cedar wood, 650 square metres of carbon fibre and two tonnes of epoxy resin into a paragon of design, technology, comfort and superb performance: 2,200 hp and a top speed of up to 32 knots.

The accommodations for six are comprised of three cabins with separate bathrooms, while the design allows guests to maintain contact with the bridge, which forms a balcony within the space. An extravagant arrangement of mahogany and suede leather marks the interior, with specially heat-treated ash decks and bulkheads covered with light, microfibre material. The bathrooms are especially luxurious, with bulkheads and decks covered with natural stone which has been thinly cut and reinforced with carbon fibre.

Diamond Encrusted HD3 Three Minds Watch Is Vestige From Another Age

HD3 3 Minds Watch
While 2007 does not seem that long ago, in the watch world it is a time long passed. For a brief moment in recent history the luxury watch industry experienced a high-end boost. An odd surge of desire for complex, brazenly bold in style, luxury watches spurred the horological community to supply the market demand. You had literally dozens of new brands, and a world of extravagantly odd watches that came out of this period. Like the early Mesozoic period before the dinosaurs ruled the Earth, it was a time of design experimentation where watches fought to live, but most of them inevitably would become extinct.

All this horological evolution was abruptly sped up and then halted by the financial melt down. The oodles of cash pouring out of new money’s hands dried up and the world’s wild watches could no longer find homes. Sure if you look hard enough there are still a few out there, but all in all, it is the older brands and the high value brands that survived. While Swiss HD3 is a brand that is alive and well. I don’t think its full range of watches can claim that. Released originally in 2007, here is a diamond encrusted version of its Three Minds watch. An automatic movement powered square watch that tells the time via three overlapping discs. The design here is an odd mixture of spacey shapes with black and green… and the diamonds. The perfect wedding president for a planetary ruler circa the year 3000.
