The Complete Collection of Elizabeth Taylor at Christies

Christie’s finally has got hold of the entire collection of Elizabeth Taylor. With no further question, the complete collection has already been sold out for a total of $183.5 million. The event was held in three parts and got an overwhelming response at 100 percent with seven lot fetching more than $5million and 30 lots bringing in more than $1 million. Many of the items auctioned sold for significantly more than the pre-auction estimates. The two-day Impressionist and Modern Art portion of the auction concluded Wednesday, February 8, in London. Thirty-eight works of art from Miss Taylor’s personal collection resulted in sales of more than $24.6 million. Vincent Van Gogh’s Vue de l’Asile et de la Chapelle de Saint-Remy was the top selling-item at $15,991,575.
According to Marc Porter, chairman, Christie’s America, the most prominent auctioneer’s first online-only portion of the auction, which ran concurrently, took in $9.5 million. More than 57,000 bids came in from the firm’s inaugural online-only activity. It has been an incredible honor for Christie’s to present this storied collection to the global collecting community.
From their initial announcement of the collection sales last summer in New York, to the worldwide tour of the collection highlights last fall, to the last rap of the auctioneer’s gavel today in London, the global outpouring of affection and admiration for Elizabeth Taylor from fans and collectors alike has been amazing for them to witness. They are grateful to the trustees of her estate for entrusting Christie’s with this one-of-a-kind collection, which will go down in history as one of the most successful private collection sales ever presented at auction.
Mila Kunis, The New Face of Dior

The Spring Summer 2012 campaign of luxury brand Christian Dior has got Mila Kunis as the new face. Kunis is the latest in a long line of movie stars such as Marilyn Monroe, Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly, to be associated with Dior.
The 28-year-old actress is thrilled with her appointment, although admits her day-to-day style doesn’t always match the luxurious Dior aesthetic. In Kunis’s just-released images for Dior, the star can be seen showcasing the latest versions of the Miss Dior handbag. Kunis’s Dior Spring campaign, shot by Mikael Jansson, will break in international fashion publications starting January 15.
Elizabeth Taylor’s collection sets a world record

The most famed Hollywood siren “Elizabeth Taylor” who died at the age of 79 and had a line of seven husbands during her glamorous life. She is a well known personality for her fondness for jewelry. A huge pearl which was once worn by European royalty and later came in the hands of Elizabeth Taylor was sold for a record price of $11.84 million at a blockbuster auction in New York. Hailed as “La Peregrina,” the pearl was bought for Taylor by her actor husband Richard Burton in 1969. The pearl now adorns a Cartier necklace and was sent to Christie’s where it was estimated to fetch $2-3 million. The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, a 33.29 carat a cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond set in platinum ring and given to her by Richard Burton in 1968 also stole the show. It was expected to fetch $2.5 million-$3.5 million but it finally went under the hammer for $8,818,500.

The Christie’s Rockefeller Center headquarters in New York has exhibited the famous Elizabeth Taylor’s wrist-watch collection. There are fourteen of these glimmering beauties in total which are estimated at $ 4000 to $500, 000. The inclusions from both Vacheron Constantin and Patek Philippe definitely steal the limelight.

It is estimated at $300,000-$500,000, covered in “flame-cut” diamonds from dial to strap, the Kalla Haute Couture Pampilles bracelet watch was gifted to Taylor by Michael Jackson. Made in 1989, it has been inspired from the Vacheron Constantin Kalla line from wherein originated their gold and diamond “Kallista”.

With a stunning black opaline dial ornamented with circular-cut diamonds in the18k pink gold bezel, this watch is estimated to be priced at $8,000-$12,000. It was gifted to Taylor whilst the shooting of Cleopatra by Bulgari with a special inscription, “To Dame Elizabeth, with gratitude, Paolo Bulgari, 2010″. (more…)
