Robb Report Releases 22nd Annual Best of Best

139903_468x550
The Robb Report, which is the definitive source for all things luxe, just released its Best of the Best for the 22nd year running. Like just about any list of this sort, there are some surprises, some no-brainers, and some controversial items. We aren’t going to give you the blow by blow”"for that, head here to read it for yourself”"but we’ll provide highlights in areas you care about. We’ll skip the boring stuff like dcor and jewelry and go straight to cars.

Placing Rolls-Royce against any other car in the sedan category is just setting it up for failure. The British carmaker has set the bar time and time again for luxury, so it’s unfair to even allow others to compete unless they’re eager to be second. At the same time, Mercedes inexplicably won with its SLS AMG in the sports car category against heavy hitters like Lamborghini, Lexus, and Lotus. Not that it’s not a nice car, but the review itself admits what a beast the car is and how it won essentially due to its gullwing doors.
The most surprising choice, in our opinion, is the Land Rover Range Rover Autobiography, beating out Audi, Cadillac, and BMW.

Paul Jr. designs a customized Chopper motorcycle with biometric system

Paul Jr. Designs biometric bike

Just like the other automobile lovers, bikers take to customizations with a rather serious perspective, and go to great lengths to customize it to their needs. To target this group, companies like Cadillac have made custom bikes such as the CTS-V coupe chopper, which took the whole car’s design to a 2-wheeler format. The brainchild of such a design came from Paul Teutul Jr. who is known for his expertise in the area. Now, TV show “American Choppers’ will showcase his latest creation, the biometric bike, which shall include a revolutionary system of starting by owner’s handprint alone, bringing in a new concept of security in motorbikes.

Paul Teutul Jr is a part of the Teutel family which is involved in making designer chopper bikes, but remains in the news for the disputes they have within the members. Hopefully this time, he shall have the media on himself for the right reasons, as the product he has designed is indeed of the revolutionary kinds. A common issue exists with most bikers, regarding the security of their choppers. With the new bio-metric technology, the bike shall only start if the owner or a select group of 100 users use their hand to start the engine electrically by placing their palm on the touch screen, which shall authenticate the rider to use the chopper. Without this, there will be no electricity flow in the motorcycle, thus disabling the unauthenticated user from using it. The advantage of this technology is that it can be used for a variety of other automobiles which include high-end cars, to prevent them from being stolen or unauthorized usage.

America is one place where you can feel the love of automobiles all through the land. For a combination of both aspirations of mankind haute couture is finally out of closet and has now entered wheels.

Luis Gispert, the famous New York based artist has recently being clicking photographs of the cars which have been detailed by the automobile interiors in designs of the reserved for the runways, from Burberry to Louis Vuitton. During his show at the Mary Boone Gallery, he will display life-size photographs of luxury rides decked out in designer patterns, and their often dressed-to-match owners.

This latest endeavor by Luis Gispert began with interior photographs of big rigs and airplanes with striking landscapes seen through the windshield before he discovered the possibility of this new project, which exudes an obsession with one’s craft that he can relate to.

Gispert was born in New Jersey, and went on to earn a Master’s Degree in Fine Art at Yale University before settling into his own studio in Brooklyn. Over the years he has produced films and sculptures, but his photography is the standout work within his resume. Using a special camera and lens set up, he photographs these luxury car interiors from the same vantage point every time, with surreal landscapes similar to those used in his earlier work.

The first vehicle he sought out was a Cadillac Escalade donning Louis Vuitton by Takashi Murakami seat and dash trim, and then was also able to track down a Burberry-embellished BMW and a Coach collectible. The rich and colorful interiors are a jolting juxtaposition to the stark and serene backdrops seen through the windows, and this artistic touch draws the viewer to concentrate on the vehicle’s upgraded upholstery, while pondering the title of the show, Decepcion.
