James Franco & Gus Van Sant Partner On Art Exhibit

The exhibit includes screenings of the film, “My Own Private River,” which is a collaboration between Van Sant and Franco. After casting Franco in the award-winning film “Milk,” Van Sant showed him the dailies and other footage that he had shot for “My Own Private Idaho” an early 1990s movie featuring River Phoenix and Keanu Reeves as street hustlers. Franco took the footage and created a new film which is a haunting video portrait of the late River Phoenix in his role as Mike. The film features a soundtrack by REM frontman Michael Stipe.
The exhibit also features artworks in watercolor by Van Sant. His poignant portraits of young men are well-done but have a certain mug-shot sadness as the subject stares at the viewer with an impassive and not-entirely-at-ease gaze. The exhibit runs February 26 through April 9 at the Gagosian Gallery at 56 North Camden Drive, Beverly Hills, California 90210. Daily screenings of the Franco film run Tuesday through Saturday at 10:00am, 12:00pm, 2:00pm and 4:00pm.
The NY Daily News reports that on Saturday night, photographer Terry Richardson did a photo shoot with Franco and Lindsay Lohan. This was after the Friday opening of the “Unfinished” exhibit that was followed by a relaxed celebration at Chateau Marmont.
The Beautiful Jewels of Gilan

The tagline for Gilan is where “eastern magic marries the western modernity.” The pieces are inspired by heritage of the Gilan brand. It was founded in 1980 in Instanbul by brothers Muharrem and Ferhan Gilan, who followed in the footsteps of their great grandmother who had been head seamstress to the opulent Ottoman Court. The brothers used their passion for design and luxury to help make Gilan a top jewelry brand in Istanbul.
One of the signature looks for the jewelry house is the Heritage collection which has a unique setting. Each rose-cut diamond is housed in silver setting which naturally oxidizes. The setting is backed with detailed engraving work on yellow gold. The setting enhances the brilliance of the diamond and the intricate detial of the back of the setting is an additional treat for the wearer, akin to turning over a fine rug or weaving and finding that the back is nearly as neat and beautiful as the front.
Gilan jewelry is available at their boutique in New York and will soon be sold at Saks Fifth Avenue in Beverly Hills. Gilan’s raised cut diamond earrings are a hit with celebrities. Amber Heard was spotted wearing a pair of Gilan earrings to a movie premiere recently. These amethyst and diamond earrings would work well with a strapless gown. These cascading earrings with diamonds drops and pave-set spirals recently appeared in Vogue. The Gilan pieces also often feature cabochon cut colored gemstones which contrast well against the faceted diamonds.
