Karl Lagerfeld Directs a Silent Film for Chanel

Karl Lagerfeld Directs a Silent Film for Chanel

Chanel has released a mini silent film “My New Friend Boy” featuring Alice Dellal, promoting the new Chanel Boy handbag collection. Continuing the buzz surrounding silent movie The Artist the only sound accompanying Dellal’s quest for her Boy bag is the dramatic sound of a piano.

As expected, the British model/rocker has brought her rockier edge to the campaign too, as she sports dreadlocks and her trademark ripped tights and leather. This follows from the more traditional front women Chanel creative director Karl Lagerfeld has selected for campaigns in the past, with all-American actress Blake Lively fronting the Mademoiselle handbag campaign last year.

New Porsche SUV called ‘Macan’

New Porsche SUV called 'Macan'

Porsche‘s new compact SUV is to be called the Porsche Macan, derived from the Indonesian word for ‘tiger’, the luxury German automaker confirmed February 16. Releasing the first teaser sketch and video for the model, Porsche also confirmed that it will begin production in 2013 as the fifth Porsche model line, following in the footsteps of the larger Cayenne SUV.

The firm’s first impressions show a low, sleek model which is known to be based on the Audi Q5 platform, with a sportier styling and premium interior. It is believed that the model will feature 2.0 and 3.0 liter gasoline and diesel engines, slightly more powerful than those in the Audi Q5, with a Macan Turbo S also expected to follow, possibly alongside a hybrid model.

In a statement, Porsche said that the animal roots of the name Macan, which is derived from Indonesian language, reflected the model’s characteristics such as “suppleness, power, fascination and dynamics.” Its introduction is likely to mark the start of a turf war between Porsche and Maserati, which introduced its own Kubang SUV last year.

Introducing the new Royal Princess

Introducing the new Royal Princess

As per reports, the Royal Princess weighs in at 141,000 tons and can carry 3,600 passengers, making her slightly bigger than last year’s major debuts, the Disney Dream, Carnival Magic and Celebrity Silhouette. Princess has revealed more details about the atrium it plans for the Royal Princess, which will be 50% larger than the atriums on other recent Princess, ships.

As well as featuring existing outlets present on current Princess ships, the plans will see the addition of a new ice cream outlet and a luxury gift shop, targeted at those celebrating major events such as birthdays and weddings on board. A new cocktail bar called Bellini’s will also debut, along with a seafood bar selling sushi, sashimi, ceviche and caviar.

Outside, guests will be able to walk along a new glass-bottomed walkway which extends over 28 feet (8.5 meters) from the edge of the vessel.

In a preview video, the atrium is shown as a ‘street-cafe’-style open space, with glass staircases, backlit floors and venues that appear to float in mid-air, a new design style which the line describes as an ‘evolution’ of its current atriums. On the top deck, there will be a new adults-only pool and other new pools which surround a tropical “island” that offers sunbathing by day and an outdoor nightclub in the evenings. The first preview cruise will depart in June and the Maiden Voyage will see the Royal Princess tour the Mediterranean, Princess confirmed.

2012 Ferrari California

2012 Ferrari California

Ferrari has confirmed the revised 2012 California convertible will get more power, a lower body weight and a new optional handling package. The model will be about 30kg lighter and will deliver an additional 30 HP. Both the exterior and interior will also be improved.

The changes in weight and power have cut the car’s zero-to-62 mph (0-100 kilometers per hour) acceleration time to 3.8 seconds.

The California, which currently starts at $192,000, will be available with an optional suspension setup called the Handling Special package. It includes computer-controlled shock dampers that react faster than before to keep the car’s body from rolling in turns while maintaining a comfortable ride.

Along with the mechanical upgrades, the new California will get a wider range of color choices, including two-tone finishes and three-layer paint technology.

Tokyo Station Hotel

The Tokyo Station Hotel will be reopening its doors on 3rd October 2012. The hotel takes up a large part of the historic red brick building that was originally built in 1914 and has been undergoing a complete renovation since March 2006. The hotel is already accepting reservations for its wedding and function rooms. Built in an eye-catching un-Japanese style, the building embodied Japan’s social and cultural globalization and modernization efforts in the early 20th century.

According to Hitoshi Fujisaki, general manager of the hotel, it has a retrospective, elegant atmosphere with turn-of-the-century decor and 21st century hospitality. 5 million volts of electricity

5 million volts of electricity

These artists with their vision are re-defining the world of art in their own peculiar but very interesting way. Few days back we informed you about artist Petros Vrellis and his interactive Van Gogh’s Starry Nights animation. Todd Johnson, an Illinois based artist who has combined science and technology to present breaking innovation in the world of art. With one of Mother Nature’s offering as his inspiration, Johnson has used lightning as his muse. Although it is not literal he has captured miniature lightning with a method of acrylic art leverages and titled them Lichtenberg Figures. Johnson runs his slabs and cylinders of plastic through a particle accelerator and injects them with 5-million volts of electricity resulting in spectacular display of different shapes and designs. The whole process sounds complicated, but the results are simply amazing. The Lichtenberg figures are priced depending on their design and size of the acrylic slab.
