Elizabeth Taylor’s collection sets a world record

The most famed Hollywood siren “Elizabeth Taylor” who died at the age of 79 and had a line of seven husbands during her glamorous life. She is a well known personality for her fondness for jewelry. A huge pearl which was once worn by European royalty and later came in the hands of Elizabeth Taylor was sold for a record price of $11.84 million at a blockbuster auction in New York. Hailed as “La Peregrina,” the pearl was bought for Taylor by her actor husband Richard Burton in 1969. The pearl now adorns a Cartier necklace and was sent to Christie’s where it was estimated to fetch $2-3 million. The Elizabeth Taylor Diamond, a 33.29 carat a cut-cornered rectangular-cut diamond set in platinum ring and given to her by Richard Burton in 1968 also stole the show. It was expected to fetch $2.5 million-$3.5 million but it finally went under the hammer for $8,818,500.
Celebrity Engagement Rings

All Hollywood weddings do not last, but that a reason big enough for us to be non-appreciating for the engagement rings that adorned the fingers of A-list celebrities. They all vary in terms of the number of karats, the kind of jewels, and the cost may vary, we can all agree that ‘bigger is better’ in Tinseltown and all that shines is gold or platinum.
In case of Kate Middleton’s engagement ring it was a family heirloom, other celebrity spouses spent big bucks to give their ladies a diamond as big as their future wives’ fame. Christina Aguilera’s five karat sparkler cost a reported $114,000, while Khloe Kardashian-Odom’s 12.5 karat engagement ring cost around $850,000.
Marchak Jewelers

When it comes to the House of Marchak the name is everything, as it not only demands continued prestigious creations devoted to their client’s expectations, but also the respect to uphold their Tsar-like reputation, homage to their Russian roots.
According to Countess Dominique de Blanchard, head of development at Marchak, he had nothing to begin with but reached the heights of fame and he was soon called ‘the Cartier of Kiev,’ then outright rival of the illustrious Faberge speaking of founder Joseph Marchak explained by Countess Dominique de Blanchard, head of development at Marchak. Due to the Russian Revolution, the Marchak family fled to Paris to start a new life, smuggling with them under their clothes the last of their creations, and those of Faberge.

The virtuous Marchaks brought with them some valued Faberge jewels over to France and kept their word by returning them to the awaiting rightful owners of Faberge, as a personal favor requested by the Faberge family.
House of Marchak continued with a noble clientele when in the 1960′s King Hassan II of Morocco commissioned them “to create and elaborate the official and private gifts. For example, the nephrite jade display unit given as a gift by the King to Mrs. Charles de Gaulle,” reveals designer Marie Christine de Ribet with a worthy smile as she shows me the momentous photos.
Designer Ribet explains how sometimes a significant gemstone is purchased, not for its scale, but rather for its beauty, even if there is no placement for it within a design at the time of purchase. The House of Marchak prefers these rare and unique stones of quality, not necessarily the size. Gems are kept away, sometimes for years, until Ribet is inspired for its destined home within a design. Although they may make a piece of jewelry up to five times, the colors and sizes will always vary, thus each a one of a kind.
Today, Marchak is owned by descendant Dr. Daniel Marchac, a renowned surgeon in France. As one of the final heirs to Joseph Marchak in Paris, his desire as owner of Marchak Jewelers is ultimately personal: to preserve the respected heritage of an imperial Russian name as a high-end internationally acclaimed bijoutier.
