Pierre Cardin redesigns the Lacoste village

A very well known fashion designer Pierre Cardin of Provencal village of Lacoste has bought 40 buildings along with Marquis de Sade’s former chateau in the quaint French village and wants to make it bright. Cardin also plans to mod Lacoste just like St. Tropez, full of “galleries, a cafe, stores, a market, and guest houses for vacationers, all done up in his signature bold, colorful aesthetic”. One of the plans that eventually got squashed was a weird golf course tagged “Le golf” that was described as something which “was to be organically maintained and dotted with monumental modern sculptures, to attract year-round tourist traffic. But farmers accused Cardin of robbing the Lubron of agricultural lands.
It appears more in the style of Dubai than Italy: Triple glass towers are linked by six giant discs and contain 1,200 apartments, restaurants, boutiques, swimming pools and a helicopter landing pad.“

Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie Leverages Film to Fight Counterfeiting
The Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie engages the arts, to raise awareness of the social impacts of the counterfeit timepiece trade.
Part of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie’s (FHH) raison d’ªtre is a commitment to fighting counterfeiting and raising public awareness of its knock on effects. Counterfeit watch revenue is now estimated at over $400 billion, where counterfeiting siphons off 7% of world trade. The FHH believes that over 40 million fake watches are sold per year, when there were only 26 million genuine Swiss timepieces made in 2010 – a difference they believe raises over $1 billion for counterfeiters.
In January 2009, the Foundation joined forces with the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry to launch an international awareness campaign with visuals and a slogan declaring “Fake Watches are for Fake People.” The FHH also has partnerships with international anti-counterfeiting organisations StopPiracy, Unifab and Indicam.

To reignite the counterfeiting discussion and educate consumers, the FHH launched a short-film competition for the general public and visual communication students at Lausanne University of Art and Design (ECAL), on the theme, Take a true look at fakes. Thirty “infomercials” and short films “” cartoons, fictions and montages “” were selected to be shown in Switzerland and internationally.
The latest campaign aims to inform the public about the peripheral effects of purchasing counterfeit goods. Highlighting the obvious impacts of lost revenue and intellectual property theft, but also exploring ethical and social issues such as child labour, money laundering, job losses and the link between counterfeiting revenues and organised crime.
Gucci’s PPR Acquires Sowind Group

PPR will own 50.1 percent of the group, up from the 23 percent it previously owned, after a reserved capital increase that will be fully subscribed by PPR, it said in a statement.
PPR’s chief executive, Franois-Henri Pinault, will become chairman of Sowind Group, alongside Monica Mailander Macaluso, who will take the post of vice-chairman.
As per Franois-Henri Pinault, this operation strengthens PPR’s Luxury Group in the high-end watchmaking segment, thanks to the potential of such a prestigious brand as Girard-Perregaux. The transaction will support Sowind Group’s international growth regarding as well products development as worldwide distribution.
This agreement is part of a longstanding business project defined with the Macaluso family, with whom we share an ambitious vision regarding the long-term growth prospects of the high-end watchmaking segment. In this regard, I’m glad to be able to count on Stefano Macaluso as General Manager of Girard-Perregaux and on Massimo Macaluso as General Manager of JeanRichard and Industrial development.
Prada’s Fashion Statement in China

Prada SpA is not just listing its shares on the Hong Kong stock exchange and opening stores across the mainland. It is also increasingly manufacturing its high-end fashion there.
The temptation to move some production abroad is growing, however. The financial crisis put pressure on the industry’s operating margins. British label Burberry PLC, for instance, came under fire for closing a factory at home and moving production to Asia.
Prada’s “Made in China” items aren’t priced any differently than products made in Italy. A pair of woven wedge shoes was recently available for $455, the same price as Italian-made sandals.
Prada sneakers are made in Vietnam, which has developed specialized know-how in athletic shoes. Many Miu Miu bags bear a “Made in Turkey” label. Clothing such as shirts and dresses often comes from nearby countries like Romania.
Prada, which raised US$2.15 billion from its initial public offering last Friday, fell 2.9% in “gray-market” trading Thursday amid general market weakness.
