Toshiba’s 55-inch 4K glass-free 3DTV to storm US stores
Toshiba the well known name is in all mood to release a 55-inch glass free 3DTV in the US by the first quarter of 2012. The TV is first of its kind to be released in US, with a 4K resolution, which is 3,840 x 2,160 pixels. The LCD maintains its superlative HD resolution when it is in 2D mode; however, it drops down to 720p when displaying 3D content. Besides the need to wear 3D glasses, the technology is upgraded to enable face tracking to fine tune the experience for up to nine people. While this model has already been launched in Japan and Germany as Regza 55X3 and 55LZ2 respectively, Toshiba is expected to display another prototype at the CES this year.
Time to sit under LED tiles
Recently the researchers in Germany have created what they call a virtual sky. The virtual sky is not some far off Sci-fi fantasy. It can be seen as a luminous ceiling made with 20″ x 20″ tiles each fitted with a board containing 288 light emitting diodes (LED). These lights are covered with a matt white diffuser film that helps all the light to mesh. The lights used are a combination of red, blue, green and white resulting in a spectacular full light spectrum. This luminous ceiling was developed by researchers from the Fraunhofer Institute of Industrial Engineering. The ceiling is designed to create natural lighting conditions of the outdoors indoors on a cloudy day. Researchers at the institute confirmed a study that found 80% of the workers preferred to work under the virtual sky.
Vertu Signature Dragon Collection
It is time to the Lunar New Year to set in, big brands are already commemorating by rolling out dragon-themed products. Vertu is the latest to join the dragon-brand. They have launched three exclusive cell phones to commemorate the Year of the Dragon. Vertu Signature Dragon collection is offered in yellow gold with diamonds, stainless steel with emeralds and black stainless steel with rubies. The highlight of this collection is the four-clawed dragon motif which was an emblem exclusively reserved for Chinese noblemen and senior officials. The yellow gold model is decked with 18ct yellow gold while the navigation button is set with a 0.33ct princess cut white diamond. At the rear, the dragon’s eyes blaze with two white diamonds. This dragon has already travelled to Switzerland to be honored with the 725 stamp in the Assay Office before settling on this Vertu.
The stainless steel phone sports a 0.25ct princess cut emerald set in the select key and the eyes are set with emerald stones on 925 sterling silver dragon. While black PVD stainless steel phone is set with a 0.25ct princess cut red ruby as the main key and the dragon is set with ruby eyes. Three Signature Dragon Black PVD Stainless Steel Ruby phones are priced at $26,800 each.
CTX, the Cadillac of lawn tractor heads to Detroit Auto Show
Summers are a bit far off in the US, but if you still wish to shop for a brand new lawn mower then head on over to Detroit next month. The North American International Auto Show, Craftsman will be at their disposal with splay their latest CTX premium tractor series. This new lawn mower is intended for homeowners who own more than two acres or more of property and anyone with that kind of property knows mowing is not all that fun. The CTX premium lawn tractors boasts of 30 horsepower motor which can reach speeds up to eight miles per hour and future models will be equipped with iPod plug-ins. A mechanical tapping hand
When it comes to designing designer duo artist Martin Smith and engineer Nick Regan have come up with the Laikingland label, they decided to bring to the world some of the most exceptional kinetic objects that interact with human kind. These have yet another exceptional piece of art and engineering jumping on the bandwagon, the Fingers Mk II by designer Nik Ramage for Laikingland. A mechanical copy of a musicians hand that’s forever tapping away to glory, this mechanical hand somewhat reminds us of the Thing, the dismembered hand you’d see walking around in an Addams Family flick. Priced at $926, this resin cast hand is tailored to drum and entertain.
Dr Dre Mixr headphones
If you are in the same league of people fascinating Dr Dre Detox Pro Headphones and the Dr Dre 24 carat Gold-plated Headphones, then you will for sure be falling for the Swarovski Dr Dre Mixr Headphones by Crystal Rocked. New M55 e-bikes get blinged
E-bikers are a fun vehicle as well as they add a bit less to pollution. But if you have the feeling that e-bikes are bland and can’t get classy, luxury bicycle maker M55 will prove you otherwise. The brand is out with the new Terminus Royal and Terminus Prime line of e-bikes, studded with Swarovski crystals, diamonds, and gold. While the Royal line comes encrusted with gems and precious metals, sky is the limit when it comes to doing up a bike from the Prime line range. While pricing starts at $37,600 I don’t think as luxury lovers you would want to settle for the base models.
World’s first diamond-studded watch phone
You would have used your smartphones as a music player and more often as a portable computer, morning alarm is also a very popular feature to be used. The LeDIX Eternel from Celsius X VI II aims to be just that. Sporting titanium treated body with “PVD unique works” the phone features 308 white diamonds totaling 2.85-carat. On the top flap the phone features a “tourbillon heart beating beneath a sapphire crystal breast-plate”. The watch is powered by a patented “Remontage Papillon” movement. Crafted with the expertise of 35 craftsmen, technicians and engineers over a period of 6 months, the gadget is priced at a staggering $365,765.
LG 55″ OLED HDTV to debut at CES 2012
The world’s largest 55 inch OLED HTV is all set to be launched by LG at the upcoming CES show. We have earlier seen small OLED screens from the Korean giant, this time LG has promised this bigger version will be ready by mid-2012 to adding the crowning jewel to your luxury lifestyle. It supports a 100,000:1 contrast ratio and LG boasts that these can reproduce more colors than LCD displays. The folks at Korean giant also suggest that this new technology allows light emitting diodes to self-generate light and features a reaction velocity to electric signals over 1000 times faster than liquid crystal.
LG Prada 3.0 phone
The latest Android game is being played by LG as it has come up with the LG Prada 3.0 handset. This is the third in its league which started with the first LG Prada touchscreen phone back in 2007. Needless to say, the 3.0 handset here has huge premium placed on the design elements. The Android driven fashion smartphone is super thin at 8.5mm and feels impressively airy in the hand. The back of the phone has textured gauze pattern which reminds one of Prada’s patented Saffiano leather, seen on Prada clutch bags and wallets.
