The Highest Grossing Movies of 2011 Worldwide

With the fact that it is nearly year end, we thought we’d take a look back at 2011′s most popular and highest grossing movies. In this league the book adaptations and sequels were big this year, with only two films on the top 10 list not falling in that category. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 take the gold with $1,328,111,219 to be exact, according to Box Office Mojo as of December 7, 2011.

Coming in second is Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon with just over $1.1 billion for the year and Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides slides into third with slightly more than $1 billion. Rounding out the top 10 is a second Johnny Depp movie, Rio raking in $484 million.

The Hublot Ad with a Battered Ecclestone Turns into a Campaign

AD Campaing

Mr. Bernie Ecclestone, a Formula1 team owner was mugged in London. The reason is that he shared his photograph, taken just after he was beaten and robbed, with Mr. Jean-Claude Biver who is the CEO of Hublot. Since Bernie had lost his Hublot also in the incident he had attached a note with the photograph “See what people will do for a Hublot.”

The photograph in question was taken by his wife just after the incident. It is surprising that Mr. Ecclestone did not lose his sense of humor even after the traumatic incident. Though there is nothing funny about a mugging or someone being attacked but the photograph and the note is simply too rich with dark humor and has been turned into an ad campaign for Hublot Geneve.

The ad was originally prepared for a single appearance in The Financial Times and The International Herald Tribune. Now, it appears that the reality based one-off advertisement will become a campaign.

Media Customer Service is the New Mantra

Media Customer Service

Value and location used to be the concept of convenience. Today is the generation of empowered consumerism that has different expectations from brands and where they expect them to be. Edelman had conducted a survey recently that came up with some interesting findings. 87% of people born between 1980 and 1995 go to multiple sources before buying a new technology product.

31% looked in seven or more places; 86% looked in multiple places before selecting a more commonplace product or service. They’re not afraid to shop around and actively contemplate purchases. In this environment the marketer needs to provide exceptional social media customer service. Good service, and the ways in which a brand can best meet the needs of its customers, lies at the heart of this new approach.

For all customers, the one thing they all want is good service, but in all other aspects they are completely different. This is not easy as each solution will be different. UK retailer Debenhams, for example, appointed six in-store sales associates as “Twitter Assistants”.

This extraordinary stereo includes giant speakers, a CD player, amplifiers, and other expensive gadgets.

Euro Disney Brings Third Theme Park

Euro Disney

Euro Disney, the theme park operator can build a new complex on the undeveloped piece of land east of Paris within the coming 20 years. They can also build a third park in the Marne-la-Valle region by 2030. There is already a Disneyland Paris, which opened in 1992, as well as the Walt Disney Studios, which opened in 2002. A new eco-tourism resort, plus a housing development will be developed in partnership with Pierre & Vacances.

A huge area of 2,230 hectares is available for development. This project is expected to generate 70,000 new jobs, directly and indirectly, and is estimated to be worth $8 billion. Philippe Gas, chief executive, said: We are committed to developing our tourist destination and supporting Frances tourism leadership, while addressing the challenges of sustainable leadership. However, he gave no indication of when the third park would actually come up.

Occupancy in the theme park has still been relatively high at a rate of 87.3 percent in the year ending 30 September. But it is down from 90.9 per cent in 2008. But the group recorded a net loss of 63m in 2009 after registering a slight profit. This year wasn’t great as well. The Walt Disney Company has 40 percent share in Euro Disney, whereas Prince al-Waleed of Saudi Arabia owns a 10 percent stake.

The Ultimate Bachelor Pad Of The Future

The Ultimate Bachelor Pad Of The Future

The interesting bit is that it has been commissioned by Playboy Magazine. They think that it will become the ultimate go-anywhere, do-anyone ride. This yacht design was actually brought out by Mead in the June y.

It is like the ultimate bachelor pad. This vehicle is supposed to have a central computer system that will manage all the functions of the Land Yacht so that you don’t have to worry about the driving, and can relax in the luxurious cabin and leather recliners. It would also have multiple television screens, recording cameras and also a wireless phone. And if you feel a little bored inside, you could always go to the rooftop bed.

This is how the driving controls are supposed to work: The driver will get a joystick that will control the vehicle, while the infrared cameras can give the driver the image even in the dark of the night.

Uncle Scrooge Paintings Up for Auction

Uncle Scrooge

As children, most of us liked the Disney comics with the ducks and their antics. OF all the duck protagonists, Scrooge McDuck perhaps was the most colourful and interst8ing character with all his miserliness and his wicked ways of exploiting his nephews.

You could relive all these memories by reading a few dusty comics, but the best thing would be to invest in old paintings of the old miser. Heritage Auctions is selling 10 paintings by Uncle Scrooge creator Carl Barks and the total proceedings from the auction could amount to $700,000.

These large oil paintings reveal the notorious money bin, where Scrooge took his gold baths, and where his nephews slaved away, polishing them. Of all the auctions I have read recently, I actually like this one and I have my own reasons for them: I love the ducks from Duckburg.
