World’s biggest airport coming up in London

World's biggest airport coming up in London

British have always been amongst the top most leagues to venture across seas to claim their right to have the biggest and best from around the world. Centuries have passed but not much has changed by then. The architectural firm of Foster + Partners have partnered with the Halcrow and Volterra builders to discuss their ambitious plans to construct the biggest airport in the world, in the UK. Sources say it will be located at the end of the Thames Estuary. It is aiming to help take the strain off the traffic from the Heathrow airport.

This airport will be a part of the brand new Thames Hub transport systems that will also have a high speed railway arrangement for trains running within the UK and Europe. Plans for a new Thames barrier to extend over the flood-proof zone further along the river are also in works.

The FT has called this go-getting exercise as the “most radical overhaul of Britain’s transport, logistics and communication network since the building of the railways”. The London Mayor, Boris Johnson has already voiced his approval for this extraordinary project.

Swiss Internationals envious first class cabins

Swiss international.jpg

Like this one, First-class passengers in Swiss International’ flights now have an added luxury. They can have a romantic dinner date with their loved ones.

The new design”"which will debut in their new A330 airplanes”"is quite a change from traditional my-cabin-is-my-oyster first class designs. According to the airline, it’s more “architectural” which goes with the “design language of the brand.” Individually adjustable side-walls can be closed while sleeping or working. Lie-flat seats allow each lucky passenger to choose the firmness of the seat cushion and backrest. Moreover, each customer can enjoy the latest in-flight entertainment on 23in screens.

Pet Airways, a pet-only airline

pet_airways_Bv1x7_12.gif

The airline launching in May will fly pets in the main cabin from LA to America’s east coast. “Pawsengers” will be riding in style in their own pet carriers in the planes’ climate-controlled cabins. That means no more cargo. Each flight has a pet attendant on board at all times, and the airline will start with a fleet of twenty planes. Only dogs and cats are currently allowed. Sadly, only your pet can fly, not you. But if you are really worried about your darling then you can even track your pet during flights by receiving timely information. Potty breaks for pets are provided two hours before takeoff. Flights start at $149 and are available to and from New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago, Denver, and Los Angeles.

Royal Bank Of Scotland cancels order of private jet

falcon7x-468x351.jpg

Royal Bank of Scotland has cancelled its order of a US $45 million luxury private jet. It was to be used by its ousted chief executive and other executives. The company would have enjoyed if the bank had not needed a taxpayer bailout.

The bank was among a list of companies that cancelled orders for Dassault Aviation’s state-of-the-art Falcon 7X business jet and rival models in the wake of the financial crash and fury over boardroom perks, the French manufacturer said on Thursday. R.B.S. placed the order for the ultra-modern long-range Falcon 7X worth $40 million to $45 million about five years ago, and the plane was due to be delivered this year. Deposits of 10 percent before delivery are most times kept on cancelled orders, but R.B.S. said it had not lost its deposit or any money on the deal and had sold on the order for the jet. The list of Dassault’s cancelled orders also includes Citigroup which has also been battered by heavy losses. This just reminds me of the NY times corporate jet which is also on sale as reported by us earlier.
